Making Time For a Stroll In the Park

Walking in the Retiro Park

The Retiro Park is always alive with people at around 11am – many retirees gather there to stand in big circles and do guided exercises with a young trainer in a bright red outfit – a bit like a small-scale MadrileƱo version of the mass Tai Chi sessions in Chinese parks.

I just like to join the wanderers, getting away from this screen for a while, to soak up some bright Madrid sunlight.

  1. I’ve got used to seeing the same people day after day on my morning and early evening walks. Everyone has there routine, we often pass by at exactly the same time and place. Nice photo Ben, I like the shadow of the man, really makes the picture.

  2. A well-used urban park is such a treasure! In the best of circumstances, a broad cross-section of people use it. In my small experience, urban parks are sometimes under-used in the U.S. I think it’s because we have a poor walking-just-for-the-sake-of-walking culture. When we finally run out of gas I guess that will change.
