The Other World Of Chinchon

On Friday my photographer friend Mike and I escaped for the day to Chinchon. Just under an hour away from Madrid by bus, it’s like stepping into another world, especially on a Friday afternoon, before the weekend tourists descend. The streets were empty, and silent apart from the sound of the birds.
We spend the day wandering around the town, popping into bars, and taking photos – the two old guys in the photo above didn’t mind a bit when Mike asked if we could take photos in their shop – a cave of delights, where I imagine they’ve been sitting for decades, just like this, two old friends stringing together bulbs of local garlic and weaving grass baskets.

Very nice Ben. I like the night shot, handheld? Are they apartments above the shops or a restaurants?
Handheld, yes! And they are restaurants. Lovely to sit there in the summer overlooking the square.
Nice pics Ben. Looks like a good spot to escape to for an afternoon.
Thanks Rob, it is lovely. Most people head to Toledo, El Escorial or Segovia first, so it gets a bit overlooked.
Chinchon tiene dwende. Las fotos son fabulosas.
